LESSON 10 OF 30 · INTERVIEW ENGLISH · 3 MIN READ

Close an interview professionally

Thank the interviewer, confirm your interest, and ask about next steps.

The end of an interview is a chance to leave a clear, polite final impression. Keep your closing brief and responsive to the conversation.

Thank the interviewer

“Thank you for explaining the role and answering my questions.” This refers to the discussion without making an exaggerated compliment.

If you are interested, say so: “The work on customer support sounds especially interesting to me.” Only mention a detail that was actually discussed.

Ask about next steps

“Could you let me know what the next steps will be?”

If the timeline has already been explained, acknowledge it instead: “Thank you. I’ll look out for an update next week.” Do not ask the same question again simply because it is in your prepared script.

Use “look forward to” correctly

In “I look forward to hearing from you,” to is a preposition, so hearing takes the -ing form. “I look forward to hear from you” is not the standard form.

Your turn

Complete a short closing: “Thank you for your time. I look forward to ___ from you.” Then add a relevant sentence about the role.

Show the answer

Use “hearing.” A possible closing is “Thank you for your time. I look forward to hearing from you. I'm interested in the training opportunities we discussed.” Use that detail only if it fits your interview.
