LESSON 07 OF 30 · INTERVIEW ENGLISH · 3 MIN READ

Ask useful questions in an interview

Use clear questions to understand the role and the team's expectations.

At the end of an interview, you may be invited to ask questions. Prepare a few that help you understand the work, then choose those not already answered.

Ask about the first few months

“What would the main priorities be in the first three months?”

This asks about expectations. “What training is available for someone joining the team?” asks how you would learn the role.

Build questions carefully

In a direct question, say “What does the team work on?” After “Could you tell me,” use statement word order: “Could you tell me what the team works on?”

Avoid “Could you tell me what does the team work on?” The introductory phrase already forms the question.

Listen and follow up

If the interviewer mentions a responsibility you do not understand, ask a specific follow-up: “Could you give me an example of a typical customer request?”

Keep the conversation flexible rather than reading a long prepared list.

Your turn

Correct this question: “Could you explain how does the training work?”

Show the answer

“Could you explain how the training works?” Use statement word order after “explain how.” A direct version is “How does the training work?”
