LESSON 03 OF 30 · INTERVIEW ENGLISH · 3 MIN READ
Talk about a weakness constructively
Explain a real area for improvement and the steps you are taking.
When an interviewer asks about a weakness, give an honest, relevant answer. You can show awareness of a difficulty without describing yourself as incapable.
Describe a specific difficulty
“I sometimes speak too quickly during presentations” is more useful than “I’m bad at communication.” It identifies a behaviour you can work on.
Then explain an action you are taking: “I now practise with a timer and pause after each main point.”
Connect the steps
Try “I used to …, so now I …” when describing a past habit and a present response.
“I used to leave presentation practice until the last evening, so now I schedule a short rehearsal two days before.”
Use “I sometimes …” if the difficulty still occurs. Do not claim that you have solved it completely unless that is true.
Keep the answer relevant
Explain a work or study habit rather than sharing private information you do not want to discuss. Avoid a rehearsed answer that turns every weakness into a compliment.
Your turn
Improve this answer: “I am bad at planning.” Add a specific situation and one action.
See a possible answer
“I sometimes underestimate how long a task will take. I now break it into smaller steps and leave time to check the final result.” This gives both a difficulty and a practical response.
